Back to School Celiac Style

Some say that knowledge is power; I think learning is power. With that in mind, we've found some resources that if read and shared will help your child have a healthy, enjoyable and productive school year.

The Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) has created a handout entitled "Understanding Your Student" that will give your child's new teacher and the school administrators basic information on Celiac Disease and the gluten-free diet.

The American Celiac Disease Association has posted a very easy to understand overview of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 which is what supports 504 Plan. The site also includes a model 504 Plan as well as a sample 504 Plan, a letter that can be signed by a physician to get the 504 Plan underway and a frequently asked questions regarding school provided lunches.
