GFW 4th Annual Anniversary Potluck

On November 4, 2006, Gluten-Free Wikaduke hosted its first meeting at Edward Plainfield Outpatient Center. Since then we as a group have had 41 meetings, a few informal gatherings, made some good friends and met countless people all because of celiac disease and our need to follow a gluten-free diet. To celebrate the milestone, we will host our 4th Annual Anniversary Potluck at the November 6 meeting from 10am until 12 noon.
In order to make this a grand eating occasion, we ask that everyone bring a dish to pass if you feel confident that you can safely prepare a meal for other celiacs. One of the best things about the potluck is giving those new to the gluten-free diet the opportunity to taste delicious gluten-free food. So, if you're stumped on what to bring, bring something that when you were diagnosed you thought you would never eat again or was sure it would never be as good. Please bring at least three copies of the recipe.
If you are leary of preparing food for the group, you might consider bringing a premade gluten free option (For example, Deerfield's Bakery cupcakes or OMG...It's Gluten Free lasagna), beverages and cups, plastic cutlery, small centerpieces, etc. For what it's worth, we have plenty of napkins and paper plates.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game!
The Chicago White Sox now offers a plethora of a gluten-free choices including beer, hot dogs WITH buns, sandwiches, nachos with various toppings, chocolate chip cookies and ice cream! Biaggi's, Naperville - GF Wine Dinner!
They said they were going to do it, but I was skeptical. I should have known better! Biaggi's in Naperville will host a gluten-free wine dinner that will take place on Thursday, April 29 at 6:30 pm.
There wine dinner which costs $65 per person includes six courses each paired with wine or a gluten-free beer. Among many other dishes, the mouth watering menu includes lobster ravioli, squash blossoms stuffed with crab, braised rabbit, foie gras pate and smoked trout!
Reservations are limited to 42 people and must be secured with a credit card. Don't wait to make those reservations!

Jewel Gluten-Free Event - South Plainfield
Jewel (South Plainfield) Rt. 59 and Caton Farm Road will be hosting a Gluten-Free Event Saturday February 6th, 2010 from noon until 3:00PM.
Jewel Registered Dietitian, Kim Kircherr will be offering tours of the store to highlight gluten-free products. Kim will be available to answer your questions, offer nutritional guidelines and gluten free recipes.
There will be a raffle (drawing at 3:00PM, winner need not be present) free products to sample as well as a tote bag with various free products (Schar, Boulder Chips, Think Thin nutrition bars and more) one bag per family, while quantities last.
Jewel has created a gluten-free task force to address the needs of those of us who require gluten free food. Please stop in to share your thoughts and receive some gluten-free products.

Save the Date!
Thrive Allergy and Gluten-Free Expo will take place at McCormick Place on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19. There will be presentations by UCCDC and GIG as well as those geared toward allergy issues. In addition, there will be cooking and baking demonstrations by Jules Shepherd as well as exhibitor demonstrations, samples, etc. The event costs $10 for one day or $15 for both.

Gluten-Free Fried Chicken Night...
"...at Ina's is Wednesday, May 7th beginning at 5pm, reservations are recommended.
We will be serving our regular menu as well so that friends or family can order at will, but all the fried chicken will be made without wheat flour and fried in new oil. We also will be featuring some gluten free table bread, flourless chocolate cake and have at least one gluten free beer in house...
and I will have some fish in house that can be battered and fried as 'fish and chips'...everything is a la carte and delicious!

Registration materials will be available beginning February 1, 2008 at www.celiaccamp.com. Camp is free except for a $25 registration fee per camper.
The Camp has already started recruiting volunteer counselors for camp. You, too, can have this amazing gluten-free experience by volunteering as a camp counselor.
